Learn to Skate with Confidence – CanSkate for Adults

Whether you're stepping onto the ice for the first time or returning after years away, CanSkate offers a supportive, adult-friendly environment to build your skills and confidence on skates.

What is CanSkate?

CanSkate is a nationally recognized, progressive learn-to-skate program that emphasizes skill development, participation, and enjoyment. Based on Sport Canada’s Long-Term Development (LTD) model, it focuses on physical literacy and the essential skating skills needed for recreational skating or entry into ice sports like hockey, ringette, speed skating, or figure skating.

Who is it for?

This program is perfect for adults of all experience levels—whether you're a true beginner, looking to improve your skating for recreational enjoyment, or preparing for another ice sport.

What will you learn?

You’ll learn a full range of balance, control, and agility skills, delivered through a six-stage curriculum. These foundational skills will help you move with greater confidence and control on the ice—whether you want to glide around a public rink, join a hockey league, or simply enjoy skating with your family.

What can you expect?

Expect fun, movement, and progress! Lessons are taught in a welcoming group setting with a low coach-to-skater ratio (maximum 1:10), allowing for personalized instruction. Sessions are upbeat and engaging, using music, equipment, and positive reinforcement to make learning enjoyable.

What do you need to participate?

All you need to get started are properly fitted skates, a CSA-approved hockey helmet, warm layers (jacket or sweater, long pants, mittens), and a willingness to try something new!
