Junior STARSkate 1-3: Building the Foundation for Figure Skating Success

The Junior STARSkate program delivers Skate Canada’s best-in-class figure skating curriculum, designed for skaters who are ready to take their skills to the next level. Taught by certified Skate Canada NCCP coaches, this program introduces fundamental figure skating elements and lays the groundwork for advancement in singles, pairs, ice dance, and synchronized skating.

Who is it for?

This program is for skaters of any age who have successfully completed CanSkate Stage 6 or have equivalent skating ability. It is also inclusive of adaptive skaters who meet the required skill level.

What to expect:

Junior STARSkate provides a well-rounded training environment that includes both on-ice and off-ice components. Skaters begin to learn the discipline and technical elements of figure skating in a supportive, team-oriented setting. The program focuses on developing:

  • Edge quality and body alignment

  • Spins and jumps

  • Performance and presentation skills

  • Physical fitness, strength, and flexibility through off-ice training

Why choose Jr. STARSkate?

Junior STAR is the entry point into Skate Canada’s nationally recognized figure skating development pathway, opening the door to testing, competitions, and a lifelong passion for the sport.

Program Assistants – A Valued Part of Our Club

The Sioux Lookout Skating Club relies on our STARSkaters to volunteer as Program Assistants (PAs) for the CanSkate program. This is an important part of our club programming and provides a meaningful opportunity for skaters to give back, develop leadership skills, and support the next generation of skaters.

All Junior STARSkaters are required to PA on the evening they are registered to skate. If registered to skate 4 nights, then the skater is required to PA a minimum of 1 CanSkate session a week.

All Senior STARSkaters are required to come out a minimum of 1 CanSkate session a week. We encourage 2 sessions when possible.

If a skater is unable to PA on a given night, it is their responsibility to find a replacement. If a replacement cannot be found, please notify the CanSkate Lead, Kayleigh, as soon as possible.

Serving as a PA not only strengthens our CanSkate sessions, but also helps build a strong, connected club community.
