This 6 day program is focused on getting skaters physically ready to return to the ice, reduce the risk of injury, and support overall performance as the season begins.

Location: Sacred Heart School (field and gym)

Indoor shoes required.

Senior STARSkate: Advancing Skills and Competitive Development

The Senior STARSkate program is designed for skaters working at STAR 3 and above, offering a high-quality training environment for athletes committed to advancing in figure skating—whether recreationally, competitively, or through Skate Canada’s assessment pathways.

Led by a Skate Canada NCCP-certified coach, this program supports development in freestyle, skills, dance, and artistic disciplines, with a balance of on-ice and off-ice components.

Who is it for?

This program is for skaters of any age who are currently training at or beyond the STAR 3 level. Participants should have previous STARSkate experience and a strong commitment to training. Adaptive skaters who meet the required skill level are welcome.

What to expect:

Senior STARSkaters will train in both group and individual lesson formats, focusing on refining technical and performance skills. The program includes:

  • Jump and spin development

  • Edge quality and advanced skating skills

  • Pattern dances and interpretation

  • Choreography and artistic expression

  • Practice time for personal development

  • Opportunities for Skate Canada assessments and competitions

Skaters also benefit from off-ice training that may include:

  • Strength and conditioning

  • Flexibility and injury prevention

  • Dance/movement for performance quality

  • Mental preparation and goal setting

Why choose Senior STARSkate?

This program supports skaters in setting and achieving personal goals—whether progressing through Skate Canada’s testing system, competing at local and regional levels, or enhancing their overall skating ability. It also encourages leadership through mentoring and program assistant roles within the club.

Senior STARSkate is a key step in a skater’s long-term development as an athlete, performer, and confident individual—on and off the ice.

Program Assistants – A Valued Part of Our Club

The Sioux Lookout Skating Club relies on our STARSkaters to volunteer as Program Assistants (PAs) for the CanSkate program. This is an important part of our club programming and provides a meaningful opportunity for skaters to give back, develop leadership skills, and support the next generation of skaters.

All Junior STARSkaters are required to PA on the evening they are registered to skate. If registered to skate 4 nights, then the skater is required to PA a minimum of 1 CanSkate session a week.

All Senior STARSkaters are required to come out a minimum of 1 CanSkate session a week. We encourage 2 sessions when possible.

If a skater is unable to PA on a given night, it is their responsibility to find a replacement. If a replacement cannot be found, please notify the CanSkate Lead, Kayleigh, as soon as possible.

Serving as a PA not only strengthens our CanSkate sessions, but also helps build a strong, connected club community.
